I decided to bite the bullet and buy the rifle I've been drooling over for a while. Thanks to Prophet River for the help importing this beast.

The bore guide from Mike Lucas arrived, and I finally had time to go to the range and try out my new GAP rifle.

Since this is my first "custom" precision rifle I figured I might as well follow GAP's barrel break in procedure...what the hell, it couldn't hurt...right?

I loaded up some rounds for break in using 44g of Varget in Win cases with CCI primers all topped with Hornady 168g HPBT Match bullets...here are the results...

Here is the rifle:

The results...these are all 5 shot groups at 100 yrds. The first target is really great (for me!), the second has one high round shot by my buddy who asked if he could try a shot...the light trigger caught him off guard, still not bad. The third target I pulled one a little left...maybe the wind picked up in that direction as well. I'm really impressed with this rifle and can't wait to try out some other loads with it at longer ranges!

UPDATE:...I tried neck sizing some once fired brass, then used the same load as before...here's the 100 yard target...5 rounds...a .300 group center to center.

And here is the 300 yard target...I stopped at 3 rounds because I was too chicken to spoil the group!...a .402 center to center.

One beautiful rifle, Defiance machine does make a very nice action, I am sure it worth every penny's!

Yeah that's what I was referring too. I've read only good things about the GA rigs and those grooping are reinforcing that :sniper:

Clay is a top notch guy, another vote for him from me.

Cheers
Ben

Another thumbs up for Clay - I got my first rifle from him.

Hey, bongobob:

That range sure looks familiar. Your rig inspired me to grab a GAP Camo Mcmillan HTG stock... here's my .260 Rem M70 Winnie build:

Thanks for the inspiration! It's greatly appreciated. This is the closest I will ever get in ANY GAP product (the camo scheme I mean). :D

Cheers and keep helping them nooobies...

Great looking rig and great shooting.

In case you weren't aware, in the pic of the cleaning, you have a bunch of very blue patches indicating copper. Not a big deal but you also show brass jags and likely brushes. The brass is dissolved in most copper solvents leaving a "false positive". Could drive you nuts if you ever want to clean and get white patches.

Hope this helps and enjoy a very nice rig.

Nice rifle there Barney.....nice to see an M70 make it to the 'Big League'!!

Gotta love the tidy package you get with the HTG......got the same one with a Stiller action and Badger M5 waiting for a barrel.
