Galil Mags in a .223 Valmet ?

I would think that the Chinese 223 AK magazine would be a closer fit. Since, the Valmet was based on the Russian AK47

From what I've read in other places is that you can get them to feed BUT! THe feed angle is wrong and causes the bullet tips to hit the internals which can cause miss feeding and even push the bullet into the cartridge case causing a potentially bad over pressure situation.

74 mags have a different follower. That's not perfect.

Yes, but for 5rnds it works perfectly. I’ve put hundreds of rounds through them and had zero feed issues. A few others have done the same conversion.

I Have also fed .223 out of un-modified AK-74 mags in a VZ-58 I own. Again, hundreds of rounds and zero issues.

What has your experience been feeding .223/5.56 out of AK-74 magazines?

The claim was perfect. They function well enough. The shape of the 5 45mm is different so the 5.56mm sits differently. Depending on what gun it's in, some filing is needed at rear locking point too. Sometimes at feed lip area a tad.

The claim was flawless. Hundreds of rounds, zero flaws feeding. Flawless. Again, have you done this conversion or not?

What you get at the end is the mag will feed 10 rounds more or less reliably but no more.
So with the 5 rounds canadian law BS the mag will be fine.
I experienced that 20 years ago.

Were did you get the AK-74 mags?

I tried some modified Norinco AK 5.56 mags. Needed to widen the feed lips and they would fit/lock up with a bit of filing. However the front of the Norinco mag was much narrower so they had a lot of play. I didn't trust them to not set the bullet back in the case so in the end just bought Valmet mags.

Okay so,

Thanks to an American friend. I learned that Plastic Galil mags can be modded to feed properly without the tipping problem that comes up from modding the steel mags. My buddy reccomend the Tapco Poly Mags, cheap and apperently easy to make work.

just incase anyone else was wondering what might work
