Now please don't give me grief over this :). A search revealed just too many threads and I couldn't bear to go through all of those - hence the post.....

Need to get into Clay shooting of which I've very little experience. Therefore, what is required to become a Member since the website simply says - quote "bring your PAL" - assuming there may be other formalities involved?

Also, much appreciate learning from CGNr's who are members about the Club atmosphere.

I suppose the best approach would be to pay them a visit (instead of a phone conversation) on a Sun or Wed when they allow guests.

Thanks,

I'm a member of Galt so is Claybuster and several other members of this board. All you need to join the clay target section is to bring your PAL,
fill out the form and a cheque (they do not have debit or credit cards).
It's a friendly club for the most part. If you are going to show up PM me
and I will show you around.

jeff g - great, thanks! I shall try to talk to the club before I go.....also need to understand formalities for using the rifle range facilities.

You need your PAL and some money. Shots bigger than 7 1/2 aren't allowed. So 7 1/2, 8, etc. are allowed.

I'm a member as well. It's $8 to shoot 25 clays if you are a non-member. $4 for members.

Funny thing is that I got the rifle range key on Sunday (when we signed up for membership) and the key didn't work. We went back and got another key, this didn't open the lock either. So this Sunday we'll try to get in.

I've been thinking about joining Galt, been out to shoot clay target a few times and always a good experience. Nice club and most of the guys I bumped into were very nice even swapped guns with a few guys for a couple of rounds...

What's the membership fee? I've just been paying the non-member rate the times I have gone out.

We should have a newbie meet and greet?

As jeffg mentioned I'm a member there and have been for well over a decade. I like the place a lot.

The membership fee depends on the sections that you join. IIRC I paid under $400 for basic membership, clay section, rifle section and outdoor handgun and that includes the mandatory OFAH membership for insurance purposes.

Galt is structured as a central Membership with "Sections".

Membership
Clays/Trap/Skeet
Rifle
Handgun
Archery
Fishing
Indoor (Shared)

I'm a member of Shotgun, Handgun, & Indoor and my annual fees roughly $400 (Handgun is $55 annually)
So probably around $300 for Shotgun only.

I am going there on Sunday morning (driving from Mississauga) to shoot trap and 5 stand, pattern the turkey shotgun, and if lucky squeeze in a round of sporting clay. it is gonna be a nice sunny day with no bugs!

PM me if you wanna meet there or go together if you are coming from the same direction.

Appreciate the offer and regret the delay in responding....didn't check in here for a while :) Have already been offered by couple other gentlemen on this forum but couldn't make it out last weekend unfortunately.

I was finally able to make it out to Galt for a few hours today. Nice location, facilities and friendly environment judging by what I was able to observe during the short period that I was there.

Moreover, I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of gentlemen from CGN and would like to take this opportunity to thank you CB, jeff g, for a very enjoyable few hours on the range today. Look forward to visiting again.

P.S. CB - please convey my regards to Frank (didn't seem to me the kind of guy who would bother to spend time on online Forums :D .....I really did enjoy his great sense of humour)

I'm glad you could make it out. Now if you were interested in seeing some of the action shooting sports you could come up this Saturday and watch the ODPL in action on May 24th.

Appreciate the info. Unfortunately, the weekend is busted for me :) Assuming the handgun event will be held outdoors? It'd have been nice to watch..... it's been a while since I've used handguns.

Well I finally got the Mistress of Finance to approve my joining the Galt club...heading out Sunday afternoon to hand over my cash, can't wait.

I been to this club as a Guest, it lacks atmosphre of a Sporting Club except for some Skeet shooting. If you wanna have fun better go and see Islington Club or Orangeville Club and see the difference yourself.
You can shoot any day on those club and not restricted to 2 days a week and also have much better facility specially for Rifle or Hndgun range not to talk about Trap Ranges.

Islington must have expanded their ranges from the 100 yard rifle and the 25 yard outdoor pistol range that I last remember.

As for Orangeville I know nada.

My work schedule doesn't allow me to get out every day so Galt suits me fine. The guys I have talked to when out there as a guest have been a great bunch so far. Galt has everything I want in a club and it's very close to my house.

Hope to meet some gunnutz out there to go shooting with.
