With nearly everyone owning a smart phone these days it makes me wonder why one would spend $400.00 or more for a foxpro or whatever brand of digital caller. Is it not possible to just plug your I phone into a speaker and go calling?

Interesting. Over here in Quebec I would have sworn it was illegal to use a device to call. Currently it's only illegal for migratory birds, except Snow Geese. Wonder what they did to deserve that? ;)

Time to go app hunting!

No way your gonna have the same features with a cell phone as a good Foxpro. Its very easy to place a foxpro 50 to 200 yards away from where you sit....a phone cord of 50 or more feet connected to an Iphone would be a frozen PITA to deal with in -30 temps. Phones also tend to be sluggish in very cold temps.
Another question is how are you gonna supply power to your speaker? Its not gonna go off a phone...now your adding more bulk and expense.
If you are on a budget, hand calls are more effective then a homemade caller.....if you want an e-callr buy a Fury II or better model and it will pay for itself in day or two here in Saskatchewan if fur prices are like last winter.
Keep the phone for texting all your girlfriends. :)

Lol. I'm an old married man. Good point about the cold weather, my phone won't work in the cold.

All I've ever used is mouth calls, and I've had great success with them. All my buddies are telling me to come out of the Stone Age and get an e-caller. I might just have to get one. I thought maybe for up close calling in bush or riverbeds a phone with a cheap small speaker might work too.

In short, yes. Check the App Store out. We've got return calls from elk with an android phone and a dewalt stereo. HUN-D-P

Seeing as you're in BC I am sure you are aware it is illegal hunt with electronic calls (except for predators - bears being an exception). As for the OP's question, yes lots but you will want to make sure it is legal in your province.

Nothing wrong with the tried and tested handcall :) I like a good e-caller just for the volume they put out..the higher end model are extremely loud with no distortion plus they allow a set up that tricks a wise old coyote circling downwind.
