game cam questions

Hi guys,
I need a little advice about game cameras; I have a situation here where, because of parking restrictions, density and niebourhood parking wars, I have to park my work van several blocks from home; over the last several months, someone has been sabotaging it on a regular basis (smashed windows and break-ins, slashed tires, signage vandalism, and even a possible attack on the break lines). Police, as we all know are useless in most given situations so I want to do something myself. I have several suspects, but I need to identify which is the culprit; I want to install a game cam to see if I can catch them, as such my questions are:

What is the range of these things for motion sensing? The camera position is likely going to be approximately 40-50 feet from the target.

Is it likely that this will work considering the amount of traffic on a street like this? (Residential side street, I would guess maybe 20 – 40 car would pass per hour in the night, unknown lesser foot traffic) or will it’s memory just fill in a couple minutes / hours?

What camera would you guys recommend (bearing in mind that I don’t want the most expensive camera to leave out in a city setting (I would camouflage it as best as possible of course)

Any advice?

Thanks in advance,
Lupo

Photo/video evidence isn't really much use in court anymore.Street justice, well I wouldn't promote that!

As for the camera, how you use it is more important than the type. They work best west positioned so that the target isn't perpendicular to the camera lens.Kinda need a quartering towards motion to work best.

My Bushnell will trigger from about the distance you speak of but not much further.

Get one with black LED's so that the camera isn't noticed when it takes a picture.

The folks at UWAY have a camera that is a decent price and it will stream the pics in almost real time to your cell phone so you can catch the scabs in the act. Not sure of pic quality or any specs but the theory may be worth looking into.

That really sux about your van. Its really frustrating being vandalised or robbed, but i think Your camera will get stolen. Even the IR models have a subtle flash which is noticeable. Also people will probly see you set it up. These cameras go missing all the time in the woods. They wouldnt last on the streets. Just my 2 cents, if u go ahead with it. Cut the flash out (will void warranty).
