I just got a Hammond gamegetter for my 7x57 mauser 98. Its great except it won't feed from the mag and I have to remove the bolt, place cartridge under extractor to shoot it. Do I have to modify the extractor? I don't really want to have to grind the edge if possible. Any ideas on this?? thanks JITC. PS the darn thing shoots .5" groups at 25 yds!!!!

Maybe just file the extractor groove in the Hammond a little bit bigger. Don't alter your gun to make it fire a $30 item .

Contact Brian on this one. Your getter should feed just the same as a regular 7x57 round because that is what Brian uses to make them.
Try putting a fired 7x57 round in the mag before you put in the getter and see if that makes a difference. You may have a weak mag spring.

I have several getters that fit Mauser 98 type actions and they feed just like regular ammo.

OK I'll try,1. change follower 2.follower spring 3. call Brian. I tried an empty shell and it won't feed either so.... JITC:redface:

Try putting loading an empty under the getter in the mag under the getter. This will change the getter to the other side of the mag well.
Is the getter not sliding up into the extractor, or is it jamming on entry to the chamber?
What did Brian have to say?

Well I put a fired empty under the GG so it was on left side and it worked!! I guess I'll have to carry an MT and a GG together?!! I Emailed Brian but haven't heard back yet. Anyway thanks guys. JITC

Now maybe this is just me, but I carry my GameGetter when I am carrying a rifle for larger game. That usually means to me, that I am carrying at least a couple full house rounds in the mag already.

Open bolt, press the GG onto the stack in the mag, then close it. No need to carry a second fired case, unless I missed something here. (?)

I suppose, if one were carrying the GG and not carrying real ammo, but who'd do that? :)

Cheers

There may be some people who load up a whole mag full of getters, maybe if they run into a flock of ruffies or spruce grouse.

They are spending a LOT on a mag full! WOW! I just carry one GG. I have known Brian for a couple years, and traded some stuff with him for the last GG I got, to replace one that wandered off somewhere in my stuff.

I'd be twitchier about hangups from the power cartridge backing out with more than one in the mag at a time, than I would be worried about losing out on a rapid second or third shot on grouse with my deer rifle. Not to mention, that I'd be a lot more concerned that I would lose track of the GG on ejection...
I have whacked a couple grouse in a row, reloading the one unit I carry, so it seems like a poor investment to be packing a bunch of them. YMMV.

All the times I have gone out on a hunting trip, I brought along a 22 for those times when I wanted to "just" hunt for grouse.

I suppose it could happen though.

So far the only blood on theGG is a starling! But its quiet, not that the neighbours complain, the closest is a mile away and also a "shootin" farmer. JITC ps so far I'm impressed with the accuracy at20 to25 yds.!!!< than 1"!!
