Gap between barrel and breach,on lock up ??

Oh no way. Kotanko must have some junior on the go or he’s getting on in age and just can’t cut it any more. I’ve heard he’s let others down like this. Local smith to me. He’s done such fine jobs in the past it’s sad to see him go down like this. Bummer.
I’d go with the Wilson and bushing if that’s all the choices you have. Firearms Outlet are good folk to deal with.

Hey
It was Dark international.
I got the name off of another thread on here.
I got the gun back like this, plus a few gouges where the front sight was installed.
I shipped it in its original box and got it back in an old blue plastic box stuffed with newspaper, instead of the foam.

I took it to the range and it was shooting low, about 8 inches.
So after adjusting rear sight,I managed a 6 inch group at 25 yrds, rested on a sandbag.

My Canik will do better than that..lol.

I paid EMT,so that's a dead end.
I'm at the point now , that I just said Fuc it,as long as I know it's safe.
I'm just not happy with the accuracy, so that's why I'm thinking a new barrel.

It was a brand new gun with less than 100 down the pipe.

I got back a gun with gouges on the slide.
A Used FLGR that was welded together.
A plug that had the top cut off with a hack saw.
And as far as I can tell, this is not my original barrel.
And shipped back in this, with some newspaper as padding. When I opened this case, I got a bad feeling..lol

At this point,I'm willing to spend a few more hundred on a barrel,if it improves the accuracy.View attachment 463321

That's absolutely brutal and IMO completely unacceptable. Literally everything about this stinks, from the work done, to the damage on your gun, to the shipping... And you're questioning whether you even got your original barrel back!?

The worst part is if you give up there is zero motivation for him to change his ways, and someone else is going to get taken for a ride too.

Have you contacted him with your gripes to see what he has to say about it and whether he would be willing to fix any of it?

Considering the damage he's done I'd be tempted to ask for both a refund AND a replacement gun!

Well...

I guess they went Intentionally Dark on you.

Jokes asides, it really sucks. Thank you for bringing their name up, I never heard of them and I will make sure to avoid them.

Hope you can come up to something with them.

I'd agree it's not typical of his usually great work. I haven't even spoken with him for several years. I hope he is doing well...

I don’t condone shoddy craftsmanship, Rodger is getting on in his years, I think it’s more of a lesson learned than the bother with restitution. You seem like a pretty easy going guy. I think you might be in good shape if you have the ability to replace a few parts yourself.
You’ll need a new link with your new barrel. You should get a set and see which aligns best with the barrel and hood lugs in full lockup is all.
I have a few spare match grade link pins I can send you. .154 and .156. You’ll have to measure the appropriate link pin’s hole to be exact, but you can try which fits best. Sometime a tiny minor reaming of a new link hole is necessary, very, very little, but I think the .154 is most common and will work. Happy to send them to you. Just PM me.

That about sums it up.

Thanks

Have you contacted him with your issues? Just wondering if he even knows you're not satisfied?
Well, he sent me a FLGR that was two pieces welded together, and had chunks of spot weld ,all over the tip.( It was supposed to be new)

A plug with the end all chewed up. It was supposed to be new.
A barrel with dremel Mark's all over it.( mine was brandnew)
A nickel slide with gouges in it from front sight install.

And to top it all off,he sent it in a old ,dirty, used case with paper as the padding.
The case I sent it in was brand new, with foam.

Do anybody actually think he missed all this when he sent me my gun?
I dont see any point in arguing with Rodger over this.
It was a $500 lesson, I pissed more than that away ,on a good Friday night drunk..lol

I wasn't going to say anything much at first,as my inexperience with 1911 was limited.
But here we are.

I bought this for my 14 year old kid to use.
Only because it had a bright nickel finish. A set of pearl grips and he was set...lol
But the trigger was awful,so you know the rest.

On the bright side, the trigger breaks at a nice crisp 3 lbs.

If not for that ,I'd through it in the back of the safe and forget about it.

I think it is possible that there is an explanation beyond he did a #### ass job and just doesn't give a #### anymore. (although its entirely possible that is exactly what happened, seems to be all too common with gunsmiths these days)

If he knows your unhappy with the work you paid for, perhaps he will do something to make it right - that would restore a lot of faith that has been lost in his business due to this thread... And if he won't then its further evidence that he should be avoided.

Maybe you can speak with him gentlemanly and ask if he’d send your original barrel back to you. Put it back on if he hasn’t killed the lugs on it. It’s specifically fit for that gun. Not sure why he replaced it to begin with.

Regards to the barrel, I'm not experienced enough to tell the difference.
All I can say is that mine was brand new with very few rnds through it.
This one looks well used.
I remember one conversation with him, where he forgot which gun I owned..lol
He said he had this gun sitting on a shelf and didn't know who it belonged to.

I had about 5 phone conversations with him ,Pryor to that, all lasting about 45 minutes +
I highly doubt he even remembers who I am.

Wow, if I was in your shoes I’d be having a talk with the guy. I’d definitely let him know I was unsatisfied with the work done and the finished product was unacceptable. I’ve had this happen to a lesser extent on a top end rebuild on a vintage motorcycle, I made sure the owner and the head tech knew what my issues were. People need to know when there’s an issue, how they handle it will speak volumes.

Yeah, something definitely looks off. I’d take it to a ‘smith to find out what’s going on with it.

Agree'd. #### ups happen. Its how they deal with it that really matters IMO.
