Garand .308 Conversion

Ok, I got a brand new Garand barrel in .308.

NOW WHAT?

Is it a simple matter of threading the new one on and go shooting, or should I have a gunsmith do it??

Are there any modifications that need to be done to the enblocs or the feed ramps, etc...???

You don't mention what version of .308 barrel you have, but generally speaking, without doing any damage, using a barrel vise and receiver wrench:
-remove the old barrel.
-install and index the new barrel.
-check the headspace and adjust as necessary.
There are spacer blocks available, which may not be necessary for feeding; they will prevent anyone from trying to load .30-06 ammunition.
The clips will be just fine, and will need no modification.

Shzt NO ! Enblocs remain the SAME. Feed ramps ? Leave them alone.

I just replace the barrel and then ensure that the chamber is within spec (at least 1.630" GO gauge, SAMMI spec) and now you are ready to go.

All the naysayers will tell you that yer #### might fall off in case you ignore using a 308 caliber insert (just another marketing ploy). Gas port ? Leave things alone. Never had to ream one EVER !

No special juju or shaking of chicken bones required. I had Jason at Gunco in Ottawa rebarrel my rifle a few years ago. That rifle is in a RamLine plastic stock and the felt recoil is much less than a wood stocked 30-06. Who knew? It will be my close quarters hunting rifle when I figure out with what and how to scope it.
