Just wondering if anyone knew off hand
if 165 gr new soft point, winchester
cx2 is too hot for the op rod.
i looked up ballistics and found 2800 fps muzzle.
its a 1942 all matching nice garand,
and would like to know if ammo in range of ball.
thanks in advance.

It's pressure curve more than velocity that determines suitability of ammo for garands, that's why powder selection for reloading for Garands is critical. I would not use that ammo unless I had one of those adjustable gas plugs, sounds like a nice rifle, hate to see something bad happen to it! (Last statement said with Mafia voice).

Thanks. The box says springfield on it but not Garand.
I know Federal and Prvi make it. Will look around.
all my stuff is AP, incendiary, and grenade launcher.

Get a ported gas plug from Garand Gear or Schuster. You'll be good to go.
Schuster offers the un-adjustable high volume ported plug or an adjustable plug.

The Schuster adjustable plug I got for my M305 was a disaster. Would only cycle the action when fully closed. Waste of money in my experience.

Or it's confirmation that the ammo you were using wasn't too hard/hot for your op-rod in the first place, making the product moot. What ammo were you using? This product is for shooting modern ammo with heavier bullets as per the original poster's request.

Plus the original poster was talking about a Garand. You are shooting an M305. BIG difference regarding op rod damage potential with wrong ammo in a Garand vs a M305.

Hi, new member here.... I'm sure there are guys out there with more info than myself but, it seems to me that a weapon of that vintage shouldn't be used to "experiment" with. I would stick to Garand specific ammo which will eliminate any issues with over pressure/op-rod damage. The "old Girl" will Love you for it and give you years of trouble free shooting enjoyment.

BTW.....I'm interested in some 30-06 GL rounds

I own a Garand and use the Prvi Partizan Garand ammo. It shoots great, is relatively cheap and the brass is good quality for reloading
