What are you shooting thru your M1 Garands? I've shot 150 FMJ, etc ... but wondering about these "Winchester Power Max bonded 150 gr PHP" bullets? Do you plink/target shoot, compete, hunt with your 30-06? Cheers,

If you like to shoot any kinds of 30-06 ammo/handloads through your Garand, I would recommend you to buy the www.mccannindustries.com gas bleeding plug insert.

As a bonus, removing the insert will turn you Garand into a true hand slide operated gun for single shoot target works :)

Primarily target shooting, occasionally compete in action rifle (short range).
I used the Hornady 168 grain Moly Coated match bullet for a while then started using the Sierra 155 Gr. Palma match. Found the the moly coated bullets worked really well, very accurate, and good pressure using IMR 4064. The Palma Match bullets are performing just as good if not better though I have not tried them at 300 yards yet, using the same powder.
If you are looking at reloading just some plinking rounds, stick with the 150 Grain FMJ...you will not go wrong with them. If you are looking at a multi purpose bullet to possibly use on game then it would be prudent to look at other alternatives.

150 gr. hpbt projectiles with 49.6 gr. of R-15 powder and Winchester Benchrest Primers.

3 MOA at 100 meters on a consistant basis, and around 4-5 moa out to 1000 meters during testing, though that is just as likely my eyes as the ammunition.

Each M1 Rifle likes somthing a little different, and if you reload you can find out what yours likes best.

As for factory ammunition, I find Remington UMC 150 grain projectiles work very nicely, averaging 4 moa at 100 meters, and have the added benifit of being one of the cheapest brands locally available.

My .02

150GR FNGC Lead bullet cast from a Lee aluminum mold and sized .311", use Lyman #2 mix, magnum Winchester primers, Remington-Peters cases, 35grs of 4064 powder, OAL 3.095".
use for target and plinking to 100yds. shoots 2"-2 1/2" groups at 100yds on a good day.

The most dramatic increase in accuracy I got, was when I aligned and "microbeddet" the stock Ferrule with rear end of the front handguard, as well as "microbeddet" the inside of the rear stock where the clips housing goes, and around the fittings where the trigger housing goes :)

I live where you get what they have on the shelf unless you bring back from teh south what you want type of bullets. I haven't set up my press for reloading yet, however am going hunting here real soon with my 30-06 M1 Garand for Umingmak(muskox). I found these bullets locally and am wondering if anyone has had experience shooting this bullet thru their M1 Garand? Thank you,

Winchester 30-06 SPRG 150gr power point ... anyone shoot this thru their M1 Garands?

OtoKiak: I have found the 150 Remington Core Lokt giving better accuracy than the Win PP. I have no personal experience with terminal performance between these two on big game, but I would wager they are very similar. HTH.

Otokiak, If my stock was oiled I could tell you, Ive got a box sitting in the safe that I'm hoping to try. I'll try and get it done soon then I'll let you know.

If you are planning to reload for the Garand stick to either IMR4064 or IMR4895 and bullets between 150 and 168gr. I'd go with one of the 165gr Hornady SST, Nosler 165gr BT, or Sierra 165gr HPBT (personal choice).

Niether Winchester nor Remington make .30-06 ammo which is compatible with the Garand as the propellants they use are too slow burning and do not generate the correct gas port pressure for the rifle.

What about the American Eagle ammunition? Is it OK? Also, where does one find the Hornady Garand Ammo?
