Garand Bayonet Carry

Looks like a good way to get the tip stuck into the web between thumb and fore finger, as well as a good way to lose it.

I can't see any reason to carry it that way, unless he had it in his head to keep the point of impact the same as with bayo locked in place.

IMHO, just something else to go wrong, when you least need it to go wrong.
 
Agreed, it wouldn't be faster or more convenient to fix it. Every now and again you get a troop that believes he's way smarter than everyone around him. Just ask him. This is one of those guys.
 
Looks like a bunch of officers/staff taking a tour. Likely someone grabbed a rifle with a bayonet for the photo event and didn't have a scabbard to put on his belt.
