So I was doing a prefire clean on my Garand for a shoot I plan on going to on Sun. I took apart the bolt to ensure it was clean. I had a hard time taking it apart, but the real problem was when I tried to reassemble it. As I was replacing the extractor and locking it in place with the ejector, I ran into a problem. I was using a punch to push the ejector in while hand moving the extractor into place, I fumbled and the extractor jumped up. When it did, the ejector seperated from its spring. It didn't look as if it had broken away. The small nub on the end of the ejector was still in place, and the ejector spring seemed to be fine, so I replaced the ejector onto the ejector spring, pressed it fully on the spring and then finished with the reassembly of the bolt. Normally this doesn't happen to me so I want to ensure that the bolt is fully fine for using. I tested both the bolt and rifle after reassembly and I didn't notice any issues. But could this be a hidden problem I won't see until I put rounds down the barrel?

I ran into the same problem using the punch and 3 hand method and took me half an hour to find the ejector in my shop. I made a bolt disassembly tool using what was in the shop and it worked like a charm. No more launching the ejector across the room.

Just need a small Quick-Grip clamp and a head of a 30-06 case. Drill and tap one end of the clamp and screw the case head to it. The picture should be self explanatory.

I made one too, but I like your design much better. That's Great, thanks for posting it...

Awesome! Hungry would be proud of the "welfare" methodology. I assume that it would also work just fine for an M-14 too!
