Might be a good tunnel rat FA firearm.yeah, a sawed off M14 seems like a totally great idea... especially with the fun switch set to on.
Very likely not. A grease gun or 1911 would be far superior in a tunnel. And definitely the grenade launcher would be a very poor choice.Might be a good tunnel rat FA firearm.
Those grunts are wearing late war camo jungle fatigues and clip-up galoshes. I'd say post 1968 for the uniforms. An M14 that late in the war was lucky to still function considering the ordinary line armorers (US speeling) wouldn't know what to do with it. Their training was unlikely to include 'obsolete' small arms. Yes, there were M21 sniper rifles, but not necessarily common knowledge.Very likely not. I think you underestimate the thoroughness of U.S. military training concerning their equipment and as for their Cammo, by the looks of its condition those dudes "have been there, done that" enough to know what works best in their AO for their needs....in spades!!Those grunts are wearing late war camo jungle fatigues and clip-up galoshes. Not complaining about their appearance or likely experience. My comment about the armorer's depth of knowledge comes from reading the Carlos Hathcock stories, about the snipers' M14s and Model 70s, and how hard it was for the troops to get good servicing. The big green machine wasn't teaching the trades everything they might encounter but exactly what was on the unit table of issue. By extension from your remark, the PFCs would have known how to time M1 Garands and belt-fed Browning .30s. I seriously doubt their schools had that luxury of class time.I think you underestimate the thoroughness of U.S. military training concerning their equipment and as for their Cammo, by the looks of its condition those dudes "have been there, done that" enough to know what works best in their AO for their needs....in spades!!
