I've narrowed it down to four rifles: a K98, M1 Garand, Finnish M39, or Mosin PU sniper.
Lol I can't decide what I want. Maybe some of you with more knowledge and experience with these rifles can help out here.
But here's some key points:

- Ammo does not matter. i reload and I could care less about ammo price.
- I have a Swedish M38, used to have an M48, and have a general love for Mausers
- Used to have a Russian mosin, but didn't like the poor quality and accuracy. M39s seem pretty awesome.
- Most enjoyable experience to shoot

M1 Garand for the ping, a K98 for the accuracy, an M39 for burning money, and a Mosin sniper for watching 'Enemy at the Gates' with.

Get what your heart desires.

Some Mosin's, like Enfields, will shoot shot-gun patterns at 100, while others are tack drivers.

So at the end of the day, get what you will be happy with.

M1: Big, heavy, and $1400+ for a decent one. If you reload, these brass-flingers are a PITA. They are a popular choice though.
K98k: Refubs start around $700 and go up for $2500+ for nice vet bringbacks. Not the most accurate guns out there, but they are a tried design and have a very strong following.
M39: the king of all Mosin Nagants - defintiely the best mosin variant ever produced. Very robustly made and a strong collector following. They are selling around $900 these days, though before the last import, these were up to around $1300 - so they are likely to increase in value (like everything milsurp these days).
PU sniper: Now is the time to buy one if they interest you. Inexpensive imports are plentiful but one day they too will be scarce. Sellng around $800-900 currently.

I buy what's available today and that will increase in value. M1's and K98k's are already scarce and very expensive, sold only on the secondary market.

You can still get a nice M39 or PU for under $1000 - it's a smarter buy to get one of these if you are buying to ride up the value curve in the next couple years.

FWIW, M39's are dead ###y. I have 4 of the things! ;)

Good advice Claven2. You cannot count the amount of times you will read on here or hear someone say "I wish I bought X when they were Y dollars!" The garand and the mausers have seen the jump already, so just keep those on the want list for now. To keep ahead of the curve on the others, I'd say take advantage of the current prices.

I have them all, and the two I enjoy shooting the most are the Garand (excellent sights) and the PU sniper.

Whichever you buy, come and shoot with us (the ORA) at Winona. We will have 3 or 4 shoots there this summer. 100 to 300 yards, including pop up targets and movers.

PM me with your name and email address and I will put you on the mailing list for dates and info.

i have a k98 if you want it haha.
i have a mosin PU as well, super inaccurate... i heard there are some accurate ones, but quality is inconsistant. if you don't mind shooting corrosive, its cheap to feed and fun to shoot at gongs.
i like k98s, got more than i need so downsizing on them. very well designed.
