Garand question...;))

yes............but why???

way better bullet selection in .308, .311-.312 bullets are rather scarce right now, and there is nothing to gain by necking up a 30-06 or 308 case to hold a .311 bullet

by the time you pay for that rebore it will take a lot of that surplus ammo to break even...............

Not realistic to do, on top of that, you won't be using a bullet puller to take apart the ammo.

Everything is realistic to do if you put your mind to it.;)
The wore out garand barrel has 0.311 inside diameter, that's when it is up for a rebarell. I can pull 440 rounds under 2 hours without the puller, and without damaging the projectiles.

Ok, lets say you go ahead and do exactly that, what burn range is the powder? Now you play russian roulette! Fast burn rate = bad things, medium burn rate = good things, Slow burn rate = unhappy things. Now just remember, the SVT 38/40 have gas valves, and you can adjust them to the round...

Do that to an M1 and you will turn a $1,000 rifle into a rifle that is worth the sum of its parts.
There's nothing realistic about any of it. The whole daft idea will cost you more than a case of .308" bullets.

Strangely enough, I agree with sunray on this.
You are suggesting turning a valuable (probably ~$1400 now...) milsurp into a bubba gun.

Just buy a $300 SVT instead.

Ya! I'm with sunray on this one too. That makes 2 or 3 times LOL! OP would be better off investing time and money into a new barrel if the old one is shot out. And the old barrel would still sell on the EE no doubt.

I doubt a worn barrel will measure .311 in the grooves. The bore may open up some.

You would not be able to re bore a .308 barrel to .311. The tolerances are too close. But if you wanted to shoot .311 bullets all you would have to do is have a .311 throating reamer made with a .308 pilot. The bullet will safely swage within it's own length on firing as long as it is not jammed into rifling. Accuracy and barrel life would not be good with .308 bullets once this alteration was done.

thx for all the input guys, I wouldn't do this with a garand that worth over 1400$. I could put together a beater for under 500$. With the current receiver prices. I have a worn oprod that needs to be retipped to worth anything anyways.
It could be challenging in the load development category, but it would be fun at the same time.
