$500 is a good price for a Garand in very good condition. If it's in excellent condition, it's a really good buy :) In the good old US of A, you'd have to pay considerably more. This is one instance where you pay less in Canada. US milsurps are usually lower priced here, go figure

Garands used to sell on gunscanada.com for $250 to $350 about 3 years ago and I have heard of $99 Garands a few years beyond that.

Not any more.

I think anywhere between $350 and $500 for a shooter is a fair price. Collector grades are worth more. Early six digit number winchesters fetch a good price in the US market.

I'd make sure the wood is okay, check to make sure the receiver does not wiggle in the stock and check to see how many parts have the same stamping, (IH for international harvestor, WRA for Winchester Repeating Arms or SA for Springfield Armory). Having all the same manufacture parts would increase the value of the gun.

Don't forget about the Itallian M1's......
Generally in alot better condition with better fit and finish than the USGI ones that have seen at least one war.....sometimes 2. You can usually find them for a bit cheaper then people ask for beat up US M1's......
Some of the Itallian ones will have Danish barrels on them (VAR stamped), these are probably the best barrels you can find on Garands.

Speaking of the /Danes. their drill team was at the 2005 Edinburgh Tattoo carying M1's. They did the trowing over the shoulder of the rifle with fixed bayonet to be caught by the rear rank. So the Marines are not the only ones who engage in this suicidal manuever.
