Got my PAL in '06 or so, immediately got a Cooey 600 for $150 and a No4 MkI for $300. The Cooey is still worth $150 and the Enfield would easily go for $1000 or more.
I'm glad I got the Garand stuff as soon as they came in. $50 for the receiver, and $269 for a Criterion barrel in .308, then a few $$ more to have Nick at Vulcan do a park job and headspace the barrel/receiver/bolt.
If only powder and primers were easier to come by these days...
