Garand rifles and M14s - Still in active army service

The reality is that they're much tougher than we are, most of us wouldn't go hunting with a Garand, these guys are busting through jungle looking for people who want to kill them with one.

They were barely sweating while we were walking. It was an easy, level route but I was still sweating way more than them and I wasn't carrying a Garand rifle.

I have seen Filipinos who were barely 110 lbs carrying 55 kilo sacks on their shoulders over steep, narrow muddy trails and they were still outpacing me.

These guys are tough, don't let their size fool you.

Most "men" are pussies. I hunt with a scoped combo gun or my Swiss Arms...if you cannot carry a backpack of gear and a 10 pound gun...get off your ass more often and shed the beer belly!!!

Interesting post....

A friend of mine, originally from the Phillippines, was in.... some sort of reserve officer corps while she went to university.

Knowing that I was interested in shooting, she mentioned that she could field strip a Garand blindfolded.

Now everyone behave themselves, I never did ask her to put a blindfold on and prove it.....or for any other purpose.

She mentioned that some members also used Uzis, and she regretted never having the chance- thought they were 'cute'.

Just as well I wasnt there. I might have asked her if she could do so blindfolded and naked...

I'm in very good shape, and I've spent a lot of time around guys like these, and I can't keep up. African trackers, and Bolivian mountaineers come to mind. They may be tiny but they will make the fittest westerners look like pansies. Doesn't matter how hardcore one thinks oneself to be, those little guys will put any of us to shame and put up with conditions we're unwilling to. I find the whole looking down of people because of stature or weight a bit pathetic. I have a "little" 5'9 165lb brother who drills on rigs that can turn a lot of bigger guys into pretzels wrestling, and go a lot longer too. Hunting in Ontario with a 10lb rifle and a backpack is just called casual hunting, what these guys can do is a lot different.

I had worked up in northern Quebec on a core drill as far north as you can go the Canadian Rangers were all around 5'3" and 105 lb strong buggers vary good people Thay manège there old 303 British just fine

I don't know how tough these Filipino soldiers really are with their hand-me-down weapons. Guess we will have to wait until they go head to head against Chicom PLA.

The Philippines' Armed Forces are of short supply of modern equipments, they have to make the most of what they have. IIRC, all currently issued M1 Garands have been converted to 7.62 NATO.
