Garand Trigger Guard Stuck?

Hi there

I just acquired a beautiful Garand from a fellow here,

After initial inspection, I attempted to field strip it, (and as I have done so with others, I know how :p )

anyway,
I cocked, checked, closed, safetied, and Hurrrrgh!

the trigger guard WILL NOT BUDGE.

I'm a fairly strong fellow, and for the life of me, I can't get the darn thing to flip up..
i've tried firmly bumping the guard towards the rear, ... i just don't know..
has anywone else experienced this?

my hand is killing me. :runaway:
what do I do?

it's in pretty great order as it is, so if I can't strip it for a while I won't freak out...but jeez...
 
take a screw driver and slip it into the hole on the rear of the gaurd and gently push down and towards the muzzle should help you out a bit
 
"...a screw driver..." Be very careful if you use a screwdriver. It can slip and scratch the steel. The rifle was designed to come apart with no tools other than a loaded ball cartridge.
It sounds like your guard may have been loose at some time and a previous owner bent the guard too much to fix it. Anyway, the trigger guard goes forward not back to get it out, like SignGuy says.
 
I have one rifle that does that to me due to the the thickness of the stock. I use a steel rod coated in rubber to
push on the trigger gaurd. put the butt against the floor and use both hands to push toward the floor. Also keep the forward handgaurd tucked
between my cheek and shoulder.

Safety doesn't have to be on, but the hammer has to be cocked.

Did canada modify their garands? I have to pull BACK on the trigger guard to unlatch it.;)

sorry I didnt update this thread...my followup is present in another thread so I forgot about this one

thanks for the suggestions

I ended up using a handle of pliers which have rubber covers... i placed it inside the winter trigger hole, and gently pulled back and up. unclipped, and smoothly stripped.. wee
