Is it 100% US GI original, or is it a post service put-together?
That will really affect value.

I know next to nothing about this rifle . It belonged to a deseased acquaintance of mine (in the same lot as the Sharps that I had posted earlier) . It came up from the States with him about 30-35 years ago . I believe the main workings of the rifle are original . Scope may have been an add on but I'm not sure .

Let's assume that it is a simulated M1D/Lyman Alaskan. A nice M-1 brings $2500 these days. The scope and mount would likely add another grand.
IF the rifle is all GI original, it is a very rare rifle and would be worth substantially more than that. It is my understanding that most M1D/M84 rifles are made up and not issue. Provenance must be carefully checked. About the only M1Ds that are safe to assume are genuine are ones that came from Denmark with the huge lot of standard M1s.

Got some barrel markings under the op rod and on top of the bolt(??)

All M1D barrels with the integral mounting block for the M84 scope mount have the drawing number D7312555 stamped on them. Yours is a standard M1 barrel (different drawing number) which has had the mounting block installed at some point in time. On this basis, it is not a genuine military M1D, but likely a rifle which was made up after the fact using a commercially available mounting block.

Military M1Ds were all made up by installing M1D barrels and associated scope mounts and scope at some time after being produced as standard M1 Garands. They were all military rebuilds.

The rifle is worth the sum of the parts plus the scope. Assuming a serviceable bore, I'd agree with a valuation of $3500.

I'd put a $1000 on any of the valuations suggested here. Any Garand is a couple thousand. Go to the Switzer's Auction records and go scrolling for ACTUAL current market price. But know that auctions are a testosterone race, and don't include fees, taxes and shipping.

That where the maximum selling price usually come from, not usually common market values.
Now I'm not arguing, if I had some nice old #### I wanted to sell, it would for sure be at auction.
Buyer pays the fees/taxes/etc.
Lots more then Switzer these days though, SFRC runs a pretty large auction too. Same deal, prices are not for me lol

Pretty sure Switzers also charges fees to the seller, beyond the buyers fees. I've read there are better options out there to sell. As a buyer, I've gotten the odd nice firearm from Switzers, but it can be a bit of a crap shoot for sure.

Thats pretty brutal then, and probably evens out to selling on CGN for market $$.
Minus the tire kicking, low balling, answering 100 questions that are already in the ad and pics lol. Depends on patience levels I guess.

If I decided to sell it (still sitting on the fence on that one), I would prefer a local sale as there is a fairly large quantity of ammo that could go with it. Also a bunch of 8 round clips ( at least 20) and a single shot adaptor. At least it's nice to have a ballpark on what the thing might be worth. Thanks to all who reply to this thread . All info is appreciated as I know next to nothing about a Garand .

Good Day,
I'm in the US so I won't speak to Canadian values. However, from the pictures provided, the scope mount appears to be a origunal USGI 7/8" version. The scope might be correct but you need to provide a picture, including the serial number, of the scope nomenclature. The cheekpad also has indications of being original USGI. The M2 flash hider might be Hart, Springfield Armory, Italian, *maybe* a reproduction. A picture of the markings will provide the answer.
Thank you for sharing.
Michael
