I was looking into the Garmin inReach plan and the pre-set messages are free to send.

Can you send them as text messages to your home phone?

My wife has no cell phone but our home phone receives texts and the nice computer generated voice reads them out.

Or are the messages sent to an email address.

Again, my wife doesn't normally use the computer but she knows how to access the email if she has to.

She really wants me to get an Inreach to reassure her I'm still alive during my solo trips but of course I want the "I'm okay out here" messages to reach her.

You can choose if you'd like your presets sent to either an email address or phone number, I would assume the robot voice on your home phone would read them like normal. Although one of the best features imo is the gps coordinates that get sent along with your presets and on a cell phone/computer it shows your location on a map.

You can send the Garmin preset messages to any phone number or email address so it should work ok if your home phone can receive txt messages but as Ben states that isn't going to give your wife your location. What you could do is have your Garmin preset message go to both your home phone & your wives email address so you have both bases covered, txt to the home phone so she knows your ok, email to the computer to show your map location, all good!
