Garrison Petawawa CQB Clinic 17-18 Sep 2016 - Debrief Here!

Location
Georgian Bay, ON
It's 17 March 2016, St. Patrick's Day and I'm beat from a day in the computer / electrical lab building circuits and adjusting resistors so I don't blow up too many LEDs. Then I'm even more tired from working with Multimeters and Oscilloscopes for the rest of the afternoon. Now the Panthers lead the Leafs 2-1 with 15 minutes remaining in the third period. :evil:

I can finally get to my business forum and type this stuff up. Georgian College Midland, ON Campus Skilled Trades Center has been keeping me busy this semester as I embark on my next journey towards my soon-to-be Apprentice Electrician stage of my life (or my second career after 30 years of being an professional edumakator) :)

It's official, CQB clinics are returning for 2016 to get you ready to compete in say, Quebec, Ontario, or BC; where ever CQB matches are running! :cool:

Where

CFB Petawawa Echo Range, but we will gather up at the White (P-141) Bldg, 5 bay garage doors, across from the Base Fire Hall (S-105). It's a quick right turn, immediately after you enter the main gate on base. Bring ID to show you are not a bad dude. :cool:

When

17-18 Sep 2016 Sat & Sunday
We usually gather around 0800 - 0830 and then convoy over to Range Control.

Cost

$ 80 for both days (go and find any instruction for that price point) ha ha ha ha
I'm only taking 28 shooters, first come, first served
SO... Before you EMT / pay me, send me a PM to confirm that we do in fact have space of you.... :p

$ 10 for the Sentry that Range Control requires us to provide. Morgan has been casually collecting some monies to help out the sentry (ies) but some folks seem to have overlooked this extension of courtesy and good will. Now we have to cough up with a more serious application for the needed post. The $10 covers you for the weekend. Morgan will be collecting this fee AT the range.

Where to Stay

About 10-15min from range control (and right by Kelseys) http://www.petawawaqualityinnandsuites.com/
2 min from base with several fast food/pizza options close by http://www.petawawariverinnandsuites.ca/

Camping details:

The campsite is inexpensive and nice. Here are a few links.

Material Focus

Everything I'll be teaching you is based on the CQB matches fired by the ORA at Langemark Range, CFB Borden.

Here's the bulk of the material from my www.tacticalteacher.ca website:

CQB Clinic Description (both restricted and non-restricted focus)

CQB Competition (like in the ORA - Ontario Rifle Association) :

* Snap shooting, rapid fire shooting, modified prone shooting
* Advance and fire shooting
* rapid magazine changes (since we don't use hi-cap mags in Canada)
* gear selection, gear manipulation, gear evolution (I'm gonna surprise ya big time...)
* What works in close and what belongs in the video games
* What works for you and what does not work for you
* Why you do up all your pouches and zippers especially before using the PortaPotty

CQB Gear to Bring:

Depending upon the focus of the type of CQB clinic (we are doing restricted, but you are welcome to shoot your NR)

* Reliable , dependable, and tested RESTRICTED rifle & pistol

* Reliable, dependable NON-RESTRICTED rifle semi-auto loader: M1 Garand, Lee-Enfield, M14, M1A, Mini-14, etc (IF you want to shoot NR)
* Current Petawawa GC issued long term ATT or Short term ATT for guests, arranged by club host (chalkriver, my pointman)

* Optics (Aimpoint, EOTech, BUIS, iron sights, ACOG, ELCAN, 1x or 2x or 3x or 4x magnification scope)
* Bring over 400 Rounds of carbine ammo (distances inside 50m), bring the cheeep stuff
* Bring 100 rounds of pistol ammo (many of you experts KNOW to DOUBLE this round count) :eek:
* Ensure you have reliable iron sights (USGI for you M14 lovers, I hope) or reliable/tested/proven optics
* Your vest or webbing must hold the 5 x 5/20 or the 5 x 5/30 magazines you will need, depends on your platform.
* Your vest should have pouches for 2 pistol magazines (restricted CQB clinic)
* Your vest or webbing should be reliable (read: avoid the mall ninja, airsoft renditions) so buy quality
* Single Point sling (Vickers, BFGear, Magpul MS3 MS4)
* Bring extra ammo whenever in doubt (better yet double my suggested round count)
* a bottle of lube (CLP, oil, grease, KY Jelly)
* 2 or 3 pens/pencils
* small rag
* ear protection (electronic means are recommended)
* Ballistic glasses are mandatory
* an open mind
* a sense of humour
* Read about some gear preparation ideas here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...tted-on-19-March-2016?p=11386601#post11386601

Hey Barney! I'm in for the weekend. I'll be in touch soon with an EMT. Looking forward to it!

Do you think the CQB clinic will go the way of the PR clinic, and run a match on day 2? It would be interesting to see.

I just need to finally sit down (I have ADD and ADHD) and plan something out. I have a finite number of visits (just ask my wife) to the wonderful community of Garrison Petawawa Gun Club each season. The PR schedule is the one I need to respect and develop since PRS fun is on the horizon. You and I will have this conversation one of these days when you get back up here! :cool:

In the meantime, we have lots of space for this mid September clinic, folks! :wave:

Driving home today... bunking out in Virden, MB now.
Drove from YYC, 12 hours later, I'm chilling.

Lots of room still, EMT away if you still want to come and have fun... then learn ... then shoot lots and lots.

How many rounds? YES....

So I had a small malfunction yesterday with my primary rifle...gas tube pin is AWOL...must've fallen out? Anyway, I was able to rig a temporary pin with a nail and it's working fine now...new pins ordered...however, anyone coming up this weekend who has an extra gas tube roll pin laying around, I would happily buy it from you or ?....

Thanks...looking forward to perforating some Fig. 11's...

Anyone bringing restricted firearms to Petawawa will need a letter of invitation from us ...send me an email to the clubs address cfbpgc@gmail.com and I will send one out to you .
I have some maps of the base and Petawawa as well if you want.

Morgan

I'm having lunch on the last day of my Western Canadian Epic Road trip right now in Espanola, ON. Just a reminder for this weekend's CQB in Garrisson Petawawa. :

If you have access to an event tent , by all means bring it along and set it up behind our kit line.

Remember to bring some $10 Nils for our sentry to cover both days of shooting
A few of us are gathering at Kelsey's on Friday night for 7 Pm

Bring more ammo than I suggest because many of you are so switched on and keen we end up cycling you through the skills and drills repeatedly

Bring warm layers and rain gear because.......

Take lots of pictures to be posted and make fun of the AB shooters in Milo, ON because I am here in Ontario...good, bad, or indifferent....

Hahahaha. It's all good. Any day on the range is a great day

Cheers

Barney

I'll be home soon, yahoooooo!

Petawawa, ON forecast is calling for rain all Saturday. Dress accordingly. Bring extra rain gear. Stay comfortable.
Hey, any of you got an event tent for yourselves?

I have a large umbrella for all three of us: me, myself and I ... ha ha ha ha

Cheers and see you guys in Kelsey's in Petawawa for 7 PM if you can make it out!

Barney

Holy Bananas.... In my door by 2230 hours and life is good. I have to unload some kit right now. I have so much to be thankful for! I will get that list going by morning.

Now about your drive and your "take aways...." What did you learn?

If you want to be great; be grateful.... :cool:

What are you thankful for?

What a great community .... how's that for a start? I'm super thankful to have met more future friends and associates.
I'm so grateful for those bolt face stickers to hand out and promote mental health concerns.

I am being called to crash out and heal this lower back of mine... I am responsible for beating up on myself after having taught FOUR CQB clinics in 20 days. I only teach half of that number (2 of them) a year! :eek:

We sure knocked the ball out of the park.......

Cheers and good night! :wave:

Barney
