Ok I just got my new barrel and gas block and am looking for hints on how to properly line up and install the gas block. It uses two allen head set screws to hold it on. Should I use any loctite or should they be peened? Also should they be torqued?

Also for the barrel I dont need to grease to extension when I put it in the upper I just got to grease the barrel nut threads correct?

Thanks

Always torque threads to given specifications if the tools are available. Nothing else is required. Alignment is best done by eye. Grease EVERYTHING, especially if you have the right grease on hand.

Ok

make an index mark on where the hole is on the barrel.
make an index mark on gas block.
Aing and torque
remove and dimple where the marks from the screws are
reinstall Use red loctite and torque to spec
once completed run a small string from the upper to the gas block afterwards to make sure everything is straight

Most often missed step in bold.

What are using to do the dimple? Also any idea what the torque spec should be?

Drill bit and drill press or hand drill and a small center punch I usually use 11/64 but start with a smaller one after I lightly center punch the barrel there are jigs for this but if you take your time you don't need one.
Usually 25-30 inch pounds is what I use

Remove screw on gas block closest to muzze side. If you look though the screw hole, you will see the gas port of the gas block.

Slip the gas bock onto the barrel. Rotate the block so that you can see the gas port of the barrel though the screw hole.

Snug down the second screw just to keep the block from moving around. Note if the block needs to sit any distance away from the shoulder/relief of the barrel.

Draw a witness mark on the barrel in line with the screw holes. Repeat on the opposite side of the gas block/barrel. You can use a business card or something with a straight edge to assist in alignment. Draw a witness line in front of the gas block if it needs to sit away from the shoulder.

Loosen screw on gas block, rotate it 180 degrees and line then up the witness marks. Snug down both screws enough to dimple the barrel. Remove gas block, dimple barrel, replace gas block using high-temp loctite or preferably Rocksett or stake using a center punch.

Don't use Red loctite, go and get the Green 609 Sealer, works far better. Most Larger Manufactures and custom shops are using that for sights (on pistols) and other semi permanent stuff. All the other advice is bang on though! On a side not on a recent Odin Works barrel install they have their barrel and gas block indexed to get you bang on, nice little surprise.
