A gas check is installed on the cast bullet base if the mold is cut for a gas check, some will say you can leave it off a gas check design if using low velocity but my tests show less accuracy as it gives the gases a chance to escape partway up the side of the base and could cause gas cutting which causes leading. If bullet design is not cut for a GC, one should not try to install one....Simply, if it is made for a GC..use one, if it's not made for a GC...don't....buy a mold with this in mind, if you don't like the cost of GCs, investigate GC making your own.
