So has anyone cut down the m14 to 18.5 and installed a gas cylinder lock with milled dovetail? Presently I have the navy sight installed on mine. But I am not sure if the dovetail gas lock threads are metric or not. Smith Enterprises has the dovetail gas lock, but will it work on the Norinco? Also thinking about a national match site for the rear is it worth changing the rear to a national match style?

Currently Smith has only made the GL Dove Tail in a SAE thread pitch, no metric (Norc)....to the best of my knowledge.....and has never marketed one.

They are very nice.....I have used both set-ups.......actually I have both at the moment. The NM rear sight works very well with any GI set up......navy site, GLDT or standard flashider.
It's a personal thing.

I spoke with Ron Smith at Smith Enterprise, Inc. about three weeks ago. They are planning on producing a metric thread gas cylinder lock front sight and a metric thread Vortex (R) flash hider for the M14. I'm in line for a set myself. They are manufacturing rear sight assemblies as well. I don't have a date for availability but they are working on them.

This is very good news!:dancingbanana:

Don't count on it anytime soon.
Not to argue with Lee (Different), but Ron has said many times over the last three years he would do these products in Metric......but he is always loaded down with these US Gov contracts that he can barely keep up with.
