Gas Port Erosion w pic

Anyone ever taken a bore scope to a high round count AR to check out the gas port erosion inside the barrel?

I did last week and it was .......... impressive and shocking at the same time. It was way worse than I ever expected.

The rifle in question has seen mostly FA fire and much of that has been suppressed so the thing has been highly abused. I am not sure if a high round count AR that only experienced semi-auto fire would show as much erosion.

Unfortunately we didn't have a way to capture images.

Crazy eh!

It happens on Semi-Auto only too - but not as bad - as its heat that is the major killer.

My SR-25 EMC barrel was scoped at 15k round - and it looked like the Grand Canyon...

Yep, it was shocking to see the extent of the erosion. I also noticed that the land in front of the port was also badly corroded and pitted for quite a distance when the others surrounding it were not.

You should bring that guy in and group it. I'd like to see how the barrel shoots after the beating of S&S.

I'll bring it in Sat morn so you can see it. Dig up some ammo and sights and you can shoot it for group.

Not the best pic in the world but def gives an idea of just how significant the gas port erosion can be. Bullet travel is bottom to top.
