I want to do the Gas System Unitizing on my M14, but because I can find a welder (or one that will try) to weld together I was going to screw it together, but I find that the screws go right through the pin that shut of the gas system. Has anyone do this type of Gas System Unitizing and if so how did you go about with the pin in the way. Secondly what is the front band not supposed to contact, is the barrel or the gas assembly. Your information would be a great help.

Thanks

Time for you to buy my M14 Abbotsford Clinic. In that CD set, I recommend the unitizing done by the USMC technique: Welding the front band to the gas cylinder at 10, 2 and 6 o'clock. Just a tack is all you need.

The screw method ? SCREW it !! Forget about drilling, tapping and loctiting the screws in. THEY BACK OUT ! In the middle of a match. How do I know ? My Sproingfield M1A did this back in 1987, that's why !! :(

Just weld it ! It will cost you a double double at a local welding shop.
