I saw a Marlin 45-70 today, she was such a purdy gal! 18 inch barrel, stainless (opps, not S/S, it was blued) in the brown laminate and a slightly bigger loop. It's the GBL model. Now, is that the good group models or is it in the Rem group of s**te? And what sort of whallop should be expected from it? I'm not a fan of large helpings of recoil!
No comments from Gary, on this one please :p

I just purchased a new Remington era Marlin 1894 in 357mag, and I am quite pleased with the quality. The fit and finish isn't perfect, but it is quite decent. The gun cycles smoothly and flawlessly. It looks as though the quality control is improving at Marlin.

Only one way to go for the last fourty years.I dont think they got it right in one day.I guess if you have low expectations, you will think its alright.

I always have low expectations when I read one of your posts. I haven't been surprised yet.:D

I have an early Remlin 1895GBL (Still built in the Marlin plant). I love it, fit and finish is great, functions smoothly and flawlessly. Accurate as hell, recoil is equivalent to a heavy 20 gauge with Hornady's Leverlution. One thing I did to mine was a Skinner Guide Gun sight set.
