How about just go hunting! Find a nice area and build a fire. My pops has a lot of racks on the side of the barn.... Rant over ;)

yeah its actually kind of impressive what a little marketing/advertising can do vs. a persons psyche. i'm not going to lie, i got pulled in my first year. had to be camo everything, scent this, scent that. now i have reverted backwards and have quickly learned that dull tones work just as well. mostly all animals are/have a shade of brown for a reason. movement and wind dir. are everything
 
I think part of the consumerism surrounding not just our sport is partly the hype but more so a vicarious way of participating. Most of us cannot hunt whenever the mood strikes us ( I am retired so hunt when I want but it was not always that way). I used to read hunting/fishing books endlessly while at work. I have managed to keep my hunting stuff at a reasonable level (sort of) but the amount of fishing gear I have accumulated is beyond ridiculous. You are not alone.

How about just mind your own business? I know what you are saying but does it really matter? I'm cheap but there are certain things I won't cheap out on, the older I get, the more comfortable I strive to be, ie: good boots, rain gear, etc.

I'm not one for Gucci rifles and scopes, I buy mid-quality rifles and scopes and I let my shooting/hunting abilities do the rest. But as I get older, I want to be comfortable and that's where I spend my money. I've met plenty of dudes hunting with a 3000$ rifle/scope combo and be contempt with shooting spikers. It's their hunt and I won't judge them for it as long as it is legal.

Hunters need to stop judging other hunters, there's as much animosity within our community from fellow hunters as there is from antis. Who cares what others do as long as it is legal. Same goes for shooters, if building a Timberwolf clone or the Tacticalest AR to punch wholes through paper at 100m makes you happy, do it. Same goes for dudes who like to "dress up" to go shooting, you want to shoot your BP looking like a 1700s fur trader or shoot your AR like a SOF guy? Do it, it's your business, not mine.
 
Who cares what other hunters want to buy/wear/use? How bout you mind your own business and not let other people’s actions bother you?

I know exactly where you're coming from. I've been contemplating the same thing last few years. I try to buy once and cry once on quality products and just let my skill and scouting dictate my season. I really do admire minimalism and hopefully complete my evolution towards becoming one..... but the e.e. on chm makes it hard!
