Gentry 3 position safety

I've been interested in them, I like their ability to lock the bolt (the older Rem 700's used to do this). I've been close to losing a round before when trapsing through heavy bush when a branch must have popped the bolt open. I felt the movement when the bolt stopped on fully open and checked my rifle immediately, but I could see the potential for missing that if I was really in the thick of things pushing bush.... or heavily bundled up.

My 2 cents on the Gentry is that they look cool and that I far prefer 3 position safeties. Other than that, I've never used one, so I can't say...But if Leeper thinks they are good quality, I'd say you have just got one of the most qualified opinions on CGN...
I have to agree with Gatehouse on the purpose of a safety. Amphibious may not like to use the safety's on his firearms, but then... I'll never be out hunting with him. For that very reason. I agree that proper firearm handling is paramount; point only in a safe direction, treat as though always loaded, etc. Perhaps Amphibious either only shoots from a bench, or he is the one human being who has never lost his footing while out climbing a hill hunting, or has never walked past trees or shrubs whose branches could easily trigger a discharge. Maybe he never walks around with a chambered round, and doesn't mind scaring game animals off while he's racking a cartridge in. He claims safety is in how you use your firearm, then why does he only use half the components engineered into his firearm?
A friend of mine had an inlaw who wouldn't use his safety. We stopped hunting with him, and wouldn't have him around anymore. The purpose of a safety is not as a cure all to poor gun handling, its merely a tool to potentially prevent an accidental discharge. Any tool, or mechanical device can fail, but its just one more thing you can do to prevent the preventable, and should be used as such.
