I recently purchased a used Leupold Vari-X II 1-4X20 with a German #1 reticle. I've never used a reticle like this and am wondering if any CGNer's here have any experience with it. What are it's pro's and con's?
I have used them quite a lot and like them for big game hunting in forested areas. That's what they were designed for, and shooting at night. They are a hunters reticle only, target and long range shooters typically dislike them! Quick and instinctive to use, easy to see in low light, but a poor choice if you want to hold over for a shot at long range.
I have changed all my hunting rifles to this retical and love them, great target acquasition, as stated above if you are just punching paper with your gun then I will lean away from it, but on a straight up hunting rifle I like them the best.
This recticle is meant for action, good choice for hunting at dawn or dusk. Still very popular in Europe. Never missed a wild bore with my trusted VOMZ 6x German post scope. It is very quick to be put on traget
