Just wondering what these markings mean on my bayonet for my Kar 98k. The metal sheath says S/185G on the front and 8446a on the back, and on the actual blade itself it says F.HERDERA.Sn and on the back side of the blade it has the numbers 438. Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if anybody else has one as well. Pics up soon.

Bayonet made for Spanish Army by Solingen...

Something like this:

To be matching, the sheath and blade should both have the same serials. S/185G on the sheath should be the serial number for the manufacture of that sheath and should be traceable (not 100% sure as my bayonets have no sheaths but this is what I read), 8446a will be the serial that matches the bayonet with the rifle it was made for, F.HERDERA will be the manufacture stamp of who made the blade, and 438 should be part of the manufacture codes that would allow you to trace the date. Both the bayonet and sheath should have identical serials that match so as to be a matching set. I will take some time later on today and look at my 1938 bayonet and confirm what I posted.

S/185 is for the maker Elite Diamant,G is for the year 1935 + 8446 a is the serial #.The bayonet should have the code marked on the blade spine by the crossguard(eg.38 for 1938).
