German K98 Mauser

Let me know what you guys think?

What's been said before. You have a missmatched JP SAUER and SOHN, manufactured in 1941. You already know that the magazine floor plate doesn't match, and from the photo the upper barrel band is of the wrong style for a CE 41. The 7mm Mauser barrel is a post-war conversion. None of the 7mm export contracts had their barrel marked that way and i don't believe CE was involved in any export contract, certainly not in 1941.

Yes there were of lot of mod. 98 manufactured in 7mm. But it was all for export contracts. Look up Mauser Military Rifles of the World, Ball, 4th ed. 2006 to see a lot of photos of export contract mod. 98. All had a National Crest stamped on the top of the receiver or a national identification on the side of the receiver. Mauser Oberndorf, FN and Brno were the manufacturers.

Still I bet it is a fun rifle to shoot. Enjoy!

I'll pass on the WAF link.

Don't put any faith in the Wehrmact Awards Forum, there are more fakes bought and sold there, and peddled by dealers who are forum sponsors supported by stupid and naive collectors blowing sunshine up their a**es.
Do a search about Craig Gottlieb (he sells Daggers and now getting into firearms), he's had more than his share of problems! (search the WAF forum as well as K98 Forum on Gunboards.com for the rest of the story!) There are more dealers, and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Fake Camo Helmets, Uniforms...

Hey thanks for the info guys, this is what makes this sport more rewarding when we have people helping others!!

P.S I haven't even shot it yet!!! I just got it from an auction a couple of weeks ago! I will be shooting it within the next week or so.

Mausers are a great arm, I currently own two Yugo pieces, a fairly common M48BO and a far less common M98b, not to be confused with a K98k capture.
Lots of information on these boards. Just as others have mentioned there is a lot of history to this series and thus a lot of confused facts on the internet.

Not a British capture, markings are commercial proofs applied in England according to British Laws. Al rifles sold in England must be proofed in order to be sold to the Public. So your rifle was re-barreled and Proofed in England, before being exported to Canada.
