Picked this up at a local store, absolutely beautiful German naval officer sword with a Damascus?blade. Any one able to weigh in on with a value? To cool of a find to sell, I’m just curious. Thanks

From what I read, most Officer’s who could afford their sword , had their own commissioned. Ivory handles, actual gem stones, etching and Damascus steel were expensive up grades. Given the one small crack in the grip, i suspect the grip is celluloid.
Actual issued swords or swords stored after a war was over (something silly about not being allowed to carry swords during peacetime) were serialized for storage.
Can anyone tell me if it’s real Damascus or just folded steel. I can see tha actual layers but don’t really know enough about it.

WKC is now an official sword maker for Canadian Armed Forces and rest of Commonwealth. Hard to beleive after the Kaiser's defeat and then the mighty Third Reich, that WKC would purchase Wilkinson Sword machines, 10 yrs ago and expand into NATO's Swords.
Unusual for demascus blade used in Imperial Germany, but I seen a few. Rest looks all correct. Iv'e owned dozens of military swords, and have seen WWI German Navy swords, like this one, going for $600-900.

Thank you for the info. I read that the allies bombed the hell out of it at one point but they had stored the equipment to prevent it from damage. They also went bankrupt during the recession after ww1.

And then in 2005 or so, Wilkinson Sword goes out of business. I purchased some stuff from that factory after they went outta business. Thousands of items went up for sale. WKC now the big boy on the block.
