Not sure where else to post this, I just recieved a Nazi flag from my father inlaw. I would like to get some info on it and what it is worth? it is 1.5 m by 2.5 m, this is what is says on the white edge. Before anyone asks, I'm not selling it, I just want to know more about it. Here's some pics
On one side it says REICHSDFLG and 1.5X2.5. it's made of wool and appears to be in excellent condtion
thanks for the help

Yours is the State Flag and Ensign of 1935 "Reichsdienstflagge" This flag was used for non-military government buildings and non-military government ships.

Very clean example, BTW.

My wife found it in a box of cloth that her mother was going to give away.
Her mothers father recieved it just after WWII from a war vet. Glad she looked through that box before it went to the Sally Ann.

A museum would be very grateful for an item like this (in particular, the Museum of the Regiments - Calgary). You would get a lot of mixed signals and misinterpretations if you displayed this in your home...even in if is done in the most respectful and historic manner.

(I know you're not going to, and you know you're not going to but for everybody else :p)

You give it to a Museum, nobody'll ever see it again. Not like they're going to build a display for your flag and say "THANKS FOR THE COOL FLAG!" It will get cataloged under "Flag, Nazi" with the other crap Vet's families don't want and it will be like it never was.

Hang it in your basement. When people ask, you say "Granddad had it after the war." If it turns into a socio-political debate, or you get accused of being a Nazi, kick 'em out of your house and ask them to pay for the beer they drank.

Anyone who gets offended by a swastika has serious issues

Hang it in home is your right, it is a part of history. If people have a problem with it to bad. Just don't hang it where it can be seen from outside.

I have collected lots of Soviet banners and Stalinst items, it does not make me Communist. I collect it because of the history, and have it on display.
Never had anyone complain in my home yet.

It is really amazing what old women will throw away if you dont stop them in time.
My mom was about to trash my dad's old WW2 tunic when she moved into a smaller house. Fortunately, I was there, so it survives.
I still have it and it can be seen in my profile photo. (no, the Sten gun did not come with it!)

The swastika is obviously a reminder of very painful memories for Hitler's war victims. That being said, if the flag is displayed as part of WW2 historic memorabilia without glorifying Nazism, the message would be different.
