German Nazi Flag

Gee...my Dad's Luger and Iron Cross he took off a German that surrendered in Wilhelmshaven in 1945 have swastikas on....better melt them down I guess. Or I can pass them down to my kids, having them feel some sense or connection of the sacrifices my Dad (and his brother, KIA 1944) made.

I have no problem whatsoever with owning war memorabilia of any sort or any side of the conflict. They are valuable artifacts and the nazis probably had more style and cool factor to their gear than any military I can think of.

Having said that, there is a difference between owning something and displaying it on a wall. In particular I believe that most people equate displaying a flag with an allegiance to or support for that flag. Choosing to fly a flag that you know full well has been adopted by hate groups and racists all over the world as their international symbol is sending a message to everyone who sees it. You can rationalize it however you want but there is a message being sent. If you want to send that message go right ahead, better men than you died so you could do so. Just don't try to hide behind "history".

Jeff, we agree, I could never have said it as well:)

Today my grandmother told me I shouldn't teach my cousin to shoot because his dad shot himself. Clearly it must have been the firearms fault.

I totally understand the emotional content that some people are posting... but it is just that, emotional content. That swastika is at least a thousand years old... in another 100 or 200 years who is going to be left that cares about ww2? I bet the swastika will still be around though. I mean how many of us even still care about the war of 1812 other than to say we beat the US down.

I am in no way supporting the evil that Nazi Germany did, but it is insane that a piece of material property is being thought of like it was the one who dropped each cannister.

This is why we keep killing each other, because we can't let go of the past and we're unwilling to change. We'll fight amongst each other while the con artists take control... we just call them politicians.

We need to embrace history, learn it, understand it then we might have a chance of not repeating the same mistakes while actually learning that it is man kind that is the problem and not the things we build.

Thank You Sir.
My English is far from perfect as I'm a new immigrant in Canada, but You just said what I couldn't.
Much appreciated.

Swastika is that old which is true, but we are not talking here about the swastika itself, but about the Nazi flag sir.
There is a significant difference between those two, especially for those who are not eager to treat the WW2 lesson as a distant, 100 or 200 years old one.
Some of us don't want to forget about the murderers wearing those colors.
This is not about the emotions here.
I can't disagree more with you.
It's about the loss of the millions of innocent lives symbolized by the flag that some of us decided to display so happily.

These f**kers killed/enslaved half of my relatives. But I still like my Nagants, Tokarevs, and Kalashnikovs! ;)

I even have a bunch of commie hats, uniforms, buttons, pins, medals, shirts, flags, etc with the hammer and sickle on it.... it doesn't mean I like Bolsheviks, Mensheviks, Trotskyists, Makhnovists.... In fact, I think anyone with those allegiances is mentally retarded and just as evil as a true Nazi.

I just like learning and teaching about HISTORY, so that future generations may learn the warning signs of new communist/nazi governments.

For the record, Nazi's can go f**k themselves too.... Did I mention I have Imperial German, Weimar German, Nazi German, East German, and West German memorabilia too!!!!!!:eek::eek:

Better call the thought police... :jerkit:

Israelis were using German Mausers as well.
Big deal.
There is a difference between collecting/using the firearms and memorabilia and DISPLAYING the symbols of Nazism.
Of course not for everyone which is perfectly fine in my book.

This was a display I had set up once with a Dewatt MP40. It has an original Nazi Party armband, an original Wehrmacht officers breast eagle that was removed from an original tunic, and a German Radio Operators badge.

All of these things have hakenkreuz (swastika) symbols on them. So if I were to have these in a display case for all to see. What does that mean?

Is the armband still evil if the swastika is covered up, cut out, burned, etc?? When does displaying these items turn from a historical presentation to the presenter being an evil kitten killing Nazi??

Not trying to put anyone's opinions down here, just trying to create debate and gauge "tolerance" levels of history/milsurp fans.

What about people who are into "living history"?? Someone has to play the "indians", right??..... :)

There is no problem with displaying the item if put in the proper context. No different then legally displaying your Mini 14 unless you wanted to display your Mini 14 with a heroic picture of Marc Lepine then you are a douchebag asking for problems. It's pretty easy to take the Liberal approah to something fun and innocent and lump it into one pile with the folks that take it to far.......Hell we could get the mindless Liberal hacks that support Windy in on it and they could try and ban this too......I agree this thread needs to end.
