Why don't many scopes come in German reticle?
I looked through the entire SIR catalog and found just one.

Are there any decent ones out there? Or do you have to sub out for a custom reticle to get a good German?

Sorry if my lingo's off...I don't know much about scopes!

The three post reticle is really a European thing. Not very popular here besides the single picket you get with old Weaver scopes. This site has a bunch of 3 post reticle scopes, it is US though so the import/export hoops would have to be jumped:

Besides that, best bet would be to look for European manufacturers as that reticle will be a lot more prevalent there. Also, there are cheap, old German scopes on Ebay all the time. (Besides the Zeiss, Hensoldt and Ajack which will go for big bucks) Caveat emptor though, you take a chance with the glass, condition of the view through the scope and mechanical adjustments.

whats a german reticle?

This one but it is more European than strictly German as lots of countries used it, including Russia on their PU scopes:

why not?
because it takes more practice to get used to, compared to the crosswire type.
Because it's most likely impossible to hold over.
Bc. they are thick (they are allowed to hunt at night)
They are virtually useless with cheap variable hugh power glass. The POA changes on those scopes with the change of power.

And mostly because they are connected with fixed power scopes and those are on the brink of extinction (unfortunately).

If I really could, I would buy an "authentic" german reticled scope from the war...but those would really run up my expenses...

And I have also noticed that they're mostly on fixed power scopes as well.
Doesn't anyone want to keep a competitive advantage anymore?
