Should I buy a bolt .223 or other .22/.24 cal gun for yotes or load my 30.06 with 100 grain bullets. The only calibers I have for varmints right now are .22LR/Mag. I have a .223 but it is restricted.

Thanks

Before I got a dedicated varmint rifle, I tried quite a few light bullets in my .30-06, including 55 gr Accelerators, Hornady 100 gr bullets, a few different 110 gr., and 130 gr. hollow point Speer bullets. The 130s were the only ones that I could get to shoot decent groups (by decent I mean 2" - 3", which obviously isn't very good). I had way better luck with a rifle chambered for a varmint round. Most .30-06 rifles do better with the heavier bullets they were designed for. I'd go with the .223, or something similar.

Thank you! Just the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks to all of you!

A 30-06 will still shoot em just as dead as a so called "yote" caliber . Of course, wanting a yote gun is another good reason to purchase another rifle. :D

165gr. 30-06, same as my deer load, and keeps me in good practice for deer since I use the same rifle and load. Of course if I had the cash available I would have a dedicated coyote rifle.
