That's not a bad idea. But it doesn't take into account how thick the grips are. A better way would be to do two measurements. The first being this same straight line distance and the second being a "string" line length from the middle of the back hook, around the grip and to the nearest part of the trigger. This will aid with finding any "fat" guns that seem like good small hand guns but in reality are only suitable for medium and up. At the same time it'll likely show something that I already know.... namely single stack 1911's with short reach triggers are really good for folks with smaller hands.
