Hey Guys,
So the range here in town has a small IPSC range and AFAIK I can take my Black Badge here in town. Is if the BB test is rolled into a course or do I have to read some books before taking the test? I'm pretty much a complete Noob and I'm wondering what I have to do to start shooting IPSC.....

What do I need for starter gear? All I have right now is a .45 with 2 mags. I'm thinking I would like a 9mm just because of the price of ammo but is that going to give me any caliber restrictions?

Cheers,
Mike

there is nothing you can do to prepare but to perhaps attend some matches and talk to the competitors... The test is wroitten only after the course is completed and can't be separated... You need to check out your sections websites for any upcomming BB courses in your area... As far as your Equipment goes for BB use what you have you may need to get 3 more mags .. a holster that covers the trigger guard and and mag pouches... if you can hit a 8x11 sheet of paper at 25yrds then your good to go.... if not practice until you take the course...

once your in IPSC and passed ur BB look at guns that suit you and then match the division to your gun... Enjoy the course you'll learn alot and once you shoot your first match you'll be hooked for life

Thanks Maxpig. So when you say hit an 8x11 sheet of paper at 25yds, do you mean put a whole mag into it? In what kind of time frame? Does it matter?

Cheers,
Mike

For now just take whatever time you need to get your hits and don't worry about time. Watch the lights lift in recoil and the spot where the sight was when it started to lift will be where the bullet is on the target. Don't wack the trigger and just have fun. The BB course is MOSTLY about safety, so if you can hit that paper on demand you should be fine.

If you go to the IPSC canada Website, you will fin a link to the Section Coordinator for BC who can direct you to instructors in your area.
Also go to ipsc.org and download a copy of the current rules is not a bad idea.
relliot is right too, focus on the basis of shooting and watching your sights.
Leave the work out of the holster for the course time and it will reduce the number of bad habits you might develop that have to be undone by your instructor.
Best of luck.

Hmmm, what do you mean by that? Are you talking about drawing and shooting? I believe my range has a no holster rule for everywhere outside of the IPSC area so I won't worry about that for now anyway.

just take the course. don't worry about your accuracy right now. you'll learn a ton on the course, that you can then play with.
looking forward to seeing you at some matches this year dude.
