Getting a hunting license…

I've been invited to go deer hunting this fall. I last had a hunting license about 20 years ago. Took a course back then, wrote the test, got the license. I have no records of that now.

Do I have to start from scratch again, or would the Ministry of Natural Resources still have that on record? If I have to start over, how can I find a Toronto source for a hunting course so I can write the exam?

Thanks for all your input.

I dont know what province you're in longbranch - but most keep it on file for ages. I went 13 years or thereabouts without a license when i didn't hunt and they had mine on file, got it the next day at the gov't agent's office.

here in Ontario from what others have told me they dont go back very far so if you or they cant find anything then you will have to start from scratch :( where are you from ??

Definately go see longbranch - it's worth a try. Other than that - i guess see if they'll let you challenge the exam - buy the book, study a bit, and go write the bugger.

If it was an Ontario outdoors card you had back then you might be in luck. I can't remember how long ago they came out with them, but it was around 20 yrs ago. They do have records back that far. My dad found an old paper small game license he still had from 68 or 69 and that was good enough to get him his license.

The MNR didn't have me on file electronically, but they do have another (Jacobian inner sanctum) department that keeps paper records of everything. They still had me on file as having completed the Hunter Safety Course 26 years ago. I'm "One" with the All-Seeing-Eye… and my Outdoors Hunting card will be here in two weeks. Never thought I'd say this, but thank you bureaucracy.

And thanks to everyone here for your help.

Ha! - good to hear longbranch. :)

I'm sure even now in some dark, candle lit dusty tomb a dark-robed individual is blowing the dust off the parchment that holds your records as the cries of tortured souls wail in the background. You'll be out in the woods in no time.
