I started reloading in the mid 80's both shotshell and rifle, was very active until a move to the far west in 98 slowed the hobby. While out there I had my first custom built by Ralf Martini and then got back into reloading. Long story short, I moved back home in 07 and haven't set up my equipment yet, and now I am going to set up my room. I have LOTS of room and my own 300 yd range behind the house, expandable to 1000 yds.
I seem to have lost/misplaced a few things, and have sold a LOT of the stuff I previously had never used. Now I am in need/want of some replacement equipment and would like to pick the brains of the local CGN reloading gurus.
First off, FORGET ABOUT COST unless it is insane, like dies, if they are $200 per set, I don't care, if they are $2 a set, I still don't care. All I want to know is what you guys consider the better equipment for each item needed!
1: I am in need of dies, 4 sets to add to my collection. 7mm-08, 270w, 325 WSM, and 243w. I am anal, I like insane accuracy in my equipment and repeatability.
2: Shellholders, I cannot find mine and I haven't purchased any in 30 years, is one brand any better than the other?
3: I was using Imperial wax for lube previously, what do you fellas recommend today? Is there a new magic lube?
4: I need another micrometer and caliper. I would like something that doesnt cost as much as a small car but I know I can trust, any recommendations? I hate the Mastercraft I tried... want better quality
5: Is there any software out there that comes in handy for any of you?
6: I would like to replace my Chrony, it's broken, lol. I want something accurate that doesn't take 3 hours to set up with remeasuring the darn thing 10 times.....
7: I would like a decent scale for weighing things heavier than powder charges, I have a Hornady scale, and an RCBS Chargemaster 1500 combo I recieved as a gift. I am looking for something accurate for weighing completed rounds, etc...
8: A decent tool for measuring chambers and the distance to lands and grooves, I have had enough playing around with brass and bullets with the rifle to get my seating depth where I want it.
Sorry for all the questions, I didn't want to start multiple threads. I haven't loaded a round now for several years as I didn't need any and didn't have the time. I figured before I head out and drop $2,000.00 on items I might not like or need, I would post this book....
