Recently got hands on an Enfield P-17(M-17 U.S. rifle, whatever). Any ideas on a decently priced source of 30.06 Springfield ammo? Should I be concerned about using modern loads in it? I had a bastardized SMLE .303 and shot hundreds of late '70s commercial loads plus some nice nickel jacketed milsurp dated 1920. Bought 100 rounds for $10.00 back in '80. Sorry, I digress. The point is I had no problems whatsoever. Can I expect the same today?

30ought surplus is as rare as chicken teeth in Canada. My understanding is that most modern commercial loads are certainly not as hot as they can be and you should be just fine. As usual though, if you have any real doubts, don't take my word and get it checked out by a gunsmith.
