October 2nd the sunrise is 7:24 am. If hunting is allowed from 6:54 what time is it best to be out by? Is it hunting if you're in a tree stand with a crossbow before that?

At 6.45 i would be out there, ready to start the hunt at 6.54, those early and late minutes accounted for more than 50% of my kills...
PS: if you get a S&B it's never to dark for it, if you can see it with your eyes, you will see it in the S&B... JP.:)

good question, I'm all ears. It's good to be in position well in advance, I'd say! Just don't shoot before the clock strikes! I remember walking out of a fairly well populated area with hunters site well after dark, it was a good mile and then some walk. You could hunt until 1/2 hr after sunset. It was mighty dark before getting back to the truck. We carried flashlights and talked real loud on the way out. A little scary, actually! This was in rifle season.

What is S&B? Do i have to case a crossbow, and can I have it cooked without a bolt?

No kidding, must enclose a crossbow. How did I miss that. Probably because I thought I'd just take a gun to go hunting. I suppose I can get an S&B for my muzzle loader.

Tell me more, are all those scopes good at night? It's not electronic is it? optics size?

Be out there as early as possible sneak in as soon as you're allowed. Over the years I've shot most of my deer around 10am later in the season (Nov). But I think that early in October they are up and moving seen as it's not so cold. The more time you spend in the bush the more likely you are to come across something lol

I like to get in my stand while it is still dark and be set up at least 5 or 10 minutes before legal.

I have been a few minutes late before and scared off two does and an 11 point buck. I did end up getting that buck though...

I hike into my deer stand in the dark. The deer don't care how big my wallet is and my nikon is ready to go for every minute of legal shooting time as far as optics on my rifle go.
The deer don't start movin there till well into the morning with all my bucks taken between 8 am and noon. Majority between 10 and noon.
For moose, we're up and on the road to our calling locations , leaving camp on the quads right at legal shooting time as bumping into one enroute happens frequently.
