Hey Shortandlong

I'm in Ottawa as well and have been thinking about reloading for years but just haven't gotten around to it. Here is a link from my range website from one of the guys there. There are quite a few good links to check out as well. I did send an email to Higginson a couple of weeks ago but they never replied back, hopefully its an oversight on their part and not their usual customer service. A lot of guys seem to reccomend LEE ANNIVERSARY KIT, I liked the one pull concept of the LEE PRO 1000 though. One of these days I just may head over to Higginson see what they have to say.

Austen I am a member there as well, but I always try to get as much info as possible

I have had that too, either he is very busy or emails end up in his junk folder by accident
I never jump to conclusions with these guys, as sometimes they are just one man, and they all have to respect thier client base . (its not like future shop)

Andrew at higginson is great to deal with just call. As for what to get. I would recommend the way that I went. Lee Anniversary Kit. It has just about everything you need to start reloading. I got into IPSC last year and need a lot of ammo so I ended up buy a progressive lee pro off of ebay. However the anniversary kit is still being used.

The Lee kit will get you started without tying up a bunch of money.

Out of curiousity, on average how many rounds per hour for reloading time (anniversary kit)?

Speed using a single-stage is more a function of how organized the rest of your process is; your fastest speeds are going to be when you do one stage to an entire batch of cases at one time. I'd expect you could do 100 rounds in 1 1/2 hours once you got your technique down, and weren't have to constantly fiddle with anything. Even though I preferred a Dillon 550 for handgun ammo, I ended up getting 3 single-stage presses for doing rifle, just so I could set up one for decapping/resizing, one for seating, and one for crimping. The reloading manual/book that comes with the Lee kits does a good job of describing how and why to do each stage.

Hi Shortandlong and Austen ;

Andrew at Higginson's is great to deal with. Give him a call would be better

I use the Lee Turret press. Purchased as a deluxe kit with scale and measure etc. This press is a semi-progressive as opposed to a single stage

I think it's only like $30 more than the anniversary kit. Well worth it.

I load 6 pistol calibres at about 50 to 100 rounds per hour

It will also load rifle up to a given size with auto index , then it converts to

single stage with taller cartridges. (don't remember the cutoff )

I guess it depends on how much you want to load. I do most of my reloading in the winter , probably 250 rds per caliber and it takes me all year to shoot these up , so I don't do too much shooting. If you plan to do lots , you'll need to look at the more automatic progressive machines that load more rounds per hour or just spend more time reloading , less time shooting.

Cool, thanks Lightning Rod,

I'm planning a trip to EOHC next week and its almost half way to Hawksbury so I'll try to swing by and meet Andrew.

is there a "do all " set up ?

Take a look at the Lee Classic Turret press. This is the "newer" Lee turret with the all steel linkage, cast iron base & a far better used primer disposal system.

If your not shooting huge ammounts of handgun ammo this press will certainly do the job. I reload in excess of 200 rounds per hour on mine.

It is also capable of reloading rifle cartridges. To convert it to a single stage press simply remove the turret actuating rod.

I believe Higginsons carry this item.
