Getting started with aperture sights for rimfire:

Hi Iron Cat…..isn’t all Smallbore shot in the “high” position? Don’t they have to have the support forearm at least 30* from flat? Curious?

How tight is the sling on your left arm and are you using a high or low position?

Hi IC. The sling is cinched as tight as I could get it on my left arm above the bicep. I was wearing a cloth jacket and the friction on the sling's cotton webbing kept it there quite well.

Not sure what you mean by high and low position?

I set the hand stop at the balance point when I hold the rifle with one hand. I wonder if I should move the hand stop towards me just a tiny bit more inside the point of balance so that the rifle really jams itself into my shoulder because the butt plate will want to rise up as the barrel really wants to tip downwards when the sling is tight?

Any and all advice is welcome!

The basic set up is to have the hand stop about the same distance from the trigger as your length of pull, that is an excellent place to start.
If your sling is that tight around your arm to the point of discomfort , I would suspect it is too tight.
