I'm just getting started and am reading alot of different threads on here about various things. I'm still looking for the right gun for me and have a few questions.
1. I have read alot about twist and how certain twist ratio's are better for certain calibers and different ranges. Could someone explain how this work or direct me to a good site that I can read?
2. What calibers would be the best for starting out? I know it depends on what I want to do but what are your opinions. I'd like to shoot very well at 500-600 meters and might want to use this also for hunting deer on fields. But I do have a deer rifle already to this is not a priority.
3. Whats the longest range in NB outside CFB Gagetown which I would assume is not available to the public. This where 500 or 600 meters come in. I mean I'd love to try to get the skill to shoot 1000m but if there is no range available to practise on I don't see the point in getting rigged up for this.
4. Scopes - Well where to start. What are your opinions on a good starter scope? Fixed or variable?

Well thats enough. If you have any good web sites I should check out that would be great. Also keep in mind I don't want to spend much over $1000 to start out with but I want to upgrade items as I improve in skill.

I am not too sure where you can shoot in N.B., but Peter Dobson may be able to help (Hirsch Precision)
I think for $1,000 you can get into a very good TR (irons) set up , but for a scoped rig, I am not too sure.
Busnell/Savage combiniation would work however.....

Ranges near Fredericton

Chris,
There are two ranges within reasonable distance of Fredericton where you can shoot up to 600m, that I know of.

First is Springfield Range, near the Mactaquac dam. Second is a range on private land in Geary. My preference is Springfield Range, as there are fully enclosed firing points. You'll need to become a member of the Fredericton Fish and Game Gun Club. Send me a PM and I'll give you the contact information for the Chief Range Officer and the club President.
