So - on taking this thing apart and doing the big degrease... I had a buddy nearby with his own SKS doing a step by step. I've been made aware that the firing pin should shuffle back and forth by it's own weight - mine does not. Too much gunk in there.

I've tried to knock the pin holding it all together out of it's place but it will NOT budge - is there a trick to it?

Hose it down with brake cleaner. Enough of that and the pin and pin channel will be clean and dry.

Otherwise, get a bigger hammer.

Try a block with a hole drilled in it wide enough to accept the "flat" into it and bang away with the proper sized drift. Driving the pin down into the hole in the block. It's tough to get started but once it starts to move it will come no problem. Hit it smartly the first time then tap it out....no swinging that hammer like a girl....HIT the F#$king thing:D

For starters - I couldn't believe you had to 'hit it with a hammer' to begin with...

I'll soak it in brake cleaner - try to knock it out again...

Some times Kroil oil left over night works better than beating the f^(% out of it like this guy did or even a heavier hammer.

If all of the above fail, use a relatively low heat source such as a lighter, heat the area around it, then give it a few good whacks with the hammer. It'll come out.

You shouldn't need any hammering or drift punches.
Im no expert on the sks, but my chinese firing pin retainer just falls out?. youre rifle may be different, just try a little passive prying first.

I've got 8 Russians, and none of the pins come out without "persuasion". All needed a tap. That being said, Spraying brake cleaner down the firing pin channel always gets them nice and clean anyway - never had a slamfire or stuck pin yet.

no i just switched hammers going up in weight

When I got to 2 lbs the pin moved just fine. Brake cleaner works. but not quite as well as disassembly IMO.

I soaked all my bolts in kerosene and then shook them off. I let them dry for about 1 hour. I then finished by pouring a kettle full of boiling water on them in the kitchen sink. Clean as a whistle. Never a problem.

My chi-com is no where near as tight as my russian....clearly a different metal composition as well....I would not be able to remove the russian by prying it.
