I was pokin around in my grandpa's house and found an old Gevarm .22lr semi-auto in his attic. I was told because of the unique action that it was illegal in Canada. I was hopin to register this gun to use as a plinker. Anyone know if this is true? or should I just give it to the LEO to make into scrap :(

The rifle is supposedly illegal because it can be converted to full auto with the turn of one screw. I dunno how - i never took the gun apart.

Any truth to these rumors?

yah.. noticed that that mags are $$$! i have the 20 rnd one and a 7-8? rnd mag for it.

I think i will register it ;) You can sure tell a rimfire that has hit that firing pin! bends the primer almost 90 degrees!

They're quite legal and a nice little rifle to boot. Not easy to do what you were told.
Easy to register, just call the CFC and say you have a rifle that's never been registered, they'll verify it over the phone, then you register it online using the numbers and info they give you.

"...with the turn of one screw..." Um, no. It's easier to prefrom this illegal act with a Gevarm because of the open bolt firing, but they're not illegal. Rather rare though.
