I just recently purchased a nice E1. I paid just under $300 for it and I am really happy with this gun.
After cleaning it up, I went straight to my personal range. I had recently bought a new 15 round mag from WG and I was a bit skeptical about how well it would work. For some reason it can only hold 14 rounds and not 15 but to me it didn't really matter. I also grabbed a bunch of different ammo to test with. Win SuperX LR and Shorts, Remington Subsonics and CBee rounds, CCI CB longs and Federal American Eagle.
Before I bought the rifle I had did some research on it and found out just how practical it is. The gun can be adjusted for different levels of power the ammo is rated for by just switching the recoil bolt around. Initially the gun was setup for HV rounds and I first tested with American Eagle using the factory mag. The AE rounds were fairly reliable and seemed accurate. The only issue was the odd FTE. The Remington Subsonics worked really well and I had no issues with accuracy or operation while using the factory mag. I then started trying out CBee rounds. To my amazement, the CBee rounds cycled the bolt! Not everytime but at least half a clip would cycle! I couldn't believe it. So I then immediately adjusted the recoil bolt for low powered rounds and loaded up another 5 rounds. Every one of them cycled and fired fine! I have never witnessed a semi auto rifle being capable of successfully cycling CBee ammo before. I loaded up another 5 and proceeded to shoot without problems. I went through 100 rounds without any failure. Man, does it sound cool.
I tested the CBee ammo for groups at 50 yards and came up with these 2 groups as being my best for the day.
Those CBee rounds are so low powered I can actually see the bullet strike the target through the scope at 50 yards. Kind of like shooting a high powered 22 cal pellet gun. Even 22 shorts cycled perfectly although they are a pain loading into the mag because of them being so short. The CCI CB longs surprisingly didn't cycle the bolt very often. They are powered about the same as the CBee rounds but maybe because the CBee rounds are actual 22 LR length and not like the shorter CCI longs.
The new 15 shot mag worked good until the last 2 rounds. When it would reach the last 2 rounds the ammo would FTF because the steel mag lips and the follower raised the front of the bullet too high and the ammo would hit the top lip of the chamber and jam. I fixed that by moving in the steel mag lips a bit with pliers and adjusting the follower to not have so much of a hump in it. The ammo now sits with a nice 20 degree slope and is identical to how would sit in the factory mag.
This rifle is very reliable. The last batch of CBee long rifle ammo seemed to misfire a lot in my Henry Mares Leg but with the Gevarm it fired every one of them.
Has anyone else been able to use a semi auto properly with CBee rounds?
